About Jordyn Genevro
Welcome to my teaching portfolio! My name is Jordyn Genevro and I am a hard working, passionate, enthusiastic 27 year old graduate of Central Michigan University. I have obtained a bachelors degree specializing in Cognitive Impairment with a reading minor at the elementary level. I have completed two semesters of student teaching internships through Central Michigan University and as a guest student through Arizona State University. My special education portion of student teaching took place at Owosso Middle School in a resource room of 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students with cross- category cognitive impairments. My second semester of general education student teaching took place in Arizona at Kiva Elementary in a first-grade classroom.
During my student teaching, I obtained a fingerprint clearance card through the state of Arizona, a Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) card, first aid/ CPR card, and have participated in many volunteer opportunities such as special Olympics, mentoring, and tutoring. I have substitute experience in the middle-grade level and have tutored students from third grade to 8th grade. I have worked with and enjoy working with parents and staff members in any situation.
After my final semester of student teaching, I got hired on the spot at my first interview ever at Imagine Tempe Elementary School in Tempe Arizona. I was hired mid-year as a first-grade teacher and looped the following year with my students to second grade. As a second grade teacher, I was also the head leader of the shared values committee, a hiring coordinator, and a mentor to new teachers. That summer, I served as a TA for Teach for America and oversaw six college students looking to pursue their passions as teachers. I observed daily lessons, provided immediate feedback, and plentiful resources.
Last year, I was the reading specialist at Imagine Tempe for grades K-6. I also worked very closely with the academic coach and STEAM coach to partner with teachers to strengthen their instruction through data and best practices. I joined the administration team to attend STEM leadership professional developments, help develop the school's excellence plan, coordinate STAR, DIBELS, Galileo, and AZMerit testing, and oversaw the hiring process at my school.
Currently, after the permanent closing at the school where I started my career, I am working at Dobson Academy as a 6th- 8th-grade resource teacher in Special Education. I also just published my first children's book titled, I AM. I am attending Northern Arizona University for my master's degree in educational leadership and my ultimate goal is to be vice principal, princial, or special education coordinator.
My everlasting passion for learning is what lead me to discover my talents in life. I was born a learner, a teacher, and a natural role model. I exude and strengthen these qualities to be the best I can be every single day. My motivation and will to succeed through the success of my students is the what keeps me coming to school every morning and staying late at night. My genuine interest, unconditional love, and empathetic heart are what makes my students feel welcome to our classroom from the moment they step through the door. My organizational skills allow for smooth transitions throughout the day allow for maximum instructional time and staying prepared and one step ahead has always been a goal of mine. I don't want to change the whole world. I've learned through experience, that goal set are only accomplished if they are achievable. I know I may not change the world. My goal in life is much more simple than that. I just want to change everyone's world that I meet. I once read a quote that said; "The two most important days in your life are the day you were born, and the day you learn why." I was born July 4th, 1991. The doctor's told my mom I was a firecracker. I found this to be true when I saw the way I sparked a love for learning in my students. I was put on this earth with my life already planned out for me. I am here to make a difference. I am a teacher.
As you navigate through my page, I hope you will enjoy pictures from the classroom, engaging lessons and activities, research-based interventions, incorporated technology, professionalism throughout, and anything else you may find on the journey of my career as a learner and teacher thus far!
